During my artistic evolution, I got to know several techniques. My passion belongs to the work with ink and egg tempera.
For my ink drawings I only use high-quality paper, preferably hand-moulded paper of high grammage.
Using more than 100 years old mouth-blown glass nib tips, allows me to draw extremely thin lines. The ink is highly uv-resistant, the colours are based on ancient models.
Mixing egg tempera from linseed oil, egg, water and a few drops of clove oil, choosing the right painting surface, covering the stretcher with the canvas - all this is part of the painting process. Feeling the material with my hands, the smell of wood and linseed oil fills the studio. Then priming the canvas with gesso until the white canvas is ready to be painted on.
Putting the first brushstroke on a new canvas is an incomparably good feeling. The painting will be created with highest-quality pigments and lots of good music. After the oil content in the egg tempera has oxidized, the painting is ready to be varnished. Oxidation can take up to one year. The varnish is made from chunks of dammar resin dissolved in turpentine oil. Colours get more depth, the paintings get the typical shine of the old masters artworks.
The subject of my work is the Niederrhein.
In the words of Hanns Dieter Hüsch: “Everything I am is the Niederrhein. All of my feelings and thoughts, speaking and singing is the Niederrhein."
